Winter Adventure

I have decided on an adventure for my winter break. Last year I went to West Texas and ventured around for a few days. This year, I am going to ride my bike home to see my family for the holiday. If anyone wants to join me for any legs, or nights of camping, just let me know. I am not sure what days I will be doing this, but the tentative route so far is as follows (it could and probably will change as the dates get closer):

Day 1: Austin (my house) to Moody, TX (camp at Mother Neff State Park) -- 84.3 mi.
Day 2: Moody to Glen Rose (camp at Dinosaur Valley State Park) -- 79.2 mi.
Day 3: Glen Rose to Decatur (probably get a hotel for the last night) -- 78.3 mi.
Day 4: Decatur to Denton -- 32.8 mi.

Let me know if you want to ride along.

Texas Bluebonnets: Better late than never

Although bluebonnets have been blooming around the Hill Country for a while, mine just started. I guess its better late than never. Here are some photos of Texas bluebonnets (Lupinus texensis) and a Takoha Daisy (Machaeranthera tanacetifolia) from my native garden.

Earth Day Tree Planting with the neighbor kids!

The neighbor kids and I planted a Texas Persimmon (Diospyros texana) this year for Earth Day. Happy belated Earth Day!

Annual Winecups and Purple Asters

The annual winecups (Callirhoe leiocarpa) have started to bloom in my native garden, along with the purple asters (Symphyotrichum patens var. patens). The Texas bluebonnets are on thier way!

My prairie coreopsis (Coreopsis palmata) is starting to take over. I thought this guy was going to be little, but you can tell by the far shots, that it is consuming the right side of the garden.

Sad times for the U.S. of A. have begun...

Unfortunately our country is so Xenophobic, our government (mainly the past administration, but construction hasn't stopped) thinks it is a good idea to put up a wall on our southern border. For some reason I distinctly remember, when I was little, our government telling someone else to "Tear down that wall!"... ironic we are now building one.

These pictures were taken east of Weslaco on Hwy 281, running along the border.
